
GLAWN
GLAWN (The African Great Lakes region: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania & Uganda) was established in 2000 as a platform and support structure for women experiencing difficulties primarily from the deaths deaths in their community, abuse, and cultural conflicts in the UK.
Our Mission
To support African women and children in the UK and Africa affected, by circumstances of bereavement, alcohol, drugs & domestic violence, by providing appropriate cultural assistance, so as to improve the quality of their life.
Organisational Structure
GLAWN operates under one full-time coordinator with a management committee of seven women from Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania. A number of networks in diaspora include CEFIAR, African Women’s organisation for development (Gharweg & Uganda Aids Action Fund), five dedicated volunteers, a membership of 152 individuals and a full-time worker.
